Who is Karma’s Confessions?

Captain Bruce

Born and raised on the south shore of Long Island, Bruce has always felt most at home by the water. His childhood was spent boating, camping on the beach, and splashing in the Atlantic — experiences that shaped a lifelong love for the sea.

Professionally, Bruce has dedicated his life to helping others. A health care provider since 1989, he served as a paramedic, instructor, and Captain with the FDNY, and is a proud 9/11 first responder.

An avid traveler, Bruce has volunteered around the world — from building schools in Tanzania to working in emergency medicine in Thailand (and befriending a few beach monkeys along the way). Over the years, he’s become a scuba diver, boat owner, and self-taught sailor.

Since 2017, his adventures have centered around Karma, the boat that started it all. Now, he’s charting new waters with Mike, chasing the horizon and living life at sea and their sailboat, Le Dodo.

First Mate Mike

Mike grew up in horse country in New Jersey but spent every summer making a beeline for the water — first in  and last out. Inspired by his scuba-diving parents, he earned his certification at Penn State and has since become an advanced scuba diver, rescue diver, and Divemaster  with a lifelong love for the ocean.

His career has taken him from the non-profit world to Wall Street, working in regulatory compliance and now capital markets as a data licensing and rights management subject matter expert.

An avid traveler, diver, and photographer, Mike also plays piano, strums guitar, and is learning the ukulele. Sailing, to him, is freedom — a simple, adventurous way to live. His first offshore passage from Annapolis to the Exumas, with 50-foot seas and gale-force winds, sealed the deal.

Aboard Le Dodo, Mike is First Mate and the resident visionary, shaping the boat’s look, feel, and tech. At 6’5”, he’s mastered the art of the companionway duck and is always ready to chase the horizon with Bruce.

Meet the Boys

Skipper, a Bulldog-Boxer mix, is the loyal second-in-comand. Goofy at heart but always on alert, he’s the boat’s unofficial watch dog and the proud dinghy captain. He follows Louie’s lead, keeps a sharp eye on the horizon, and makes sure everyone knows who’s boss (hint: it’s still Louie).

Louie, a French Bulldog with a big personality packed into a small frame, is the self-appointed captain of… well, everything. Known as “the ornery, horny, Frenchman,” he’s in charge of keeping the crew in line and the waves properly chased. He may be small, but he’s got the confidence of a 50-footer.

Together, Louie and Skipper bring the perfect mix of mischief, muscle, and charm to life aboard Le Dodo.
